In 1899 Frank T. Hopkins, owner of the famous
cream - and - white "Hidalgo" raised from Sioux stock, entered the historic, 3,000-mile endurance race in Arabia. Competing with 100 crack Arabian desert horses, Hidalgo ran the rugged course in 68 days and won
by 36 hours.
